Caltech is planning to provide a University-Research Class Computer, eventually a 16 node Beowulf Cluster, and appropriate application programs to local schools for use by the math, science and technology teaching staffs to enable simulations and analyses not feasible on classroom computers. We have worked with the San Marino Schools and with EdTech. We were invited to talk to twenty-one teachers, nineteen of whom were here on campus as part of the "CRPC at Caltech Minorities Teachers Computational Sciences Awareness Program".
There are some pictures from that event.
You should also read the documents at the Hrothgar site, as they discuss current progress with the computers and the applications.
Training opportunity:
The Maui High Performance Computing Center will be acting as host for a training session for
Maui and other Hawaiian schools on Friday the 22nd of January, 1999. A
few 'mainland' schools have indicated an interest in sending a representative.
This will be an all-work session, all day Friday, working dinner Friday night
and work again on Saturday. For details, see the Ho'omaka pages.
